Kelo vs New London, after 5 years
Помните такое дело, Kelo vs. New London - когда Верховный Суд разрешил правительству отбирать недвижимость у одних людей и отдавать другим, если оно решит, что так будет полезнее? С деньгами оно так давно делает, а с недвижимостью - 5 лет назад суд постановил, тоже можно.
Так вот - что, вы думаете, за эти 5 лет стало с той самой собственностью в Новом Лондоне, которую отобрали у Кело и других? Там, наверное, сейчас город-сад, правда? Или хотя бы какое-то очень полезное экономическое предприятие, приносящее много-много радости жителям?
Хрена с два:
Susette Kelo’s entire neighborhood was bulldozed to make way for the private development project. 75 homes and several businesses were destroyed. Over $80 million in taxpayer dollars were funneled into the redevelopment project. And yet, there’s still no construction. The property sits vacant. The local paper ran a story, Feral Cats Ignore Eminent Domain, explaining that the only residents of the empty field are cats and birds.
Более того:
The well-laid plans of redevelopers, however, did not pan out. The land where Suzette Kelo's little pink house once stood remains undeveloped. The proposed hotel-retail-condo "urban village" has not been built. And earlier this month, Pfizer Inc. announced that it is closing the $350 million research center in New London that was the anchor for the New London redevelopment plan, and will be relocating some 1,500 jobs.
Ради Пфицера, напомню, вся бодяга и затевалась - типа там построят новые красивые дома для их работников вместо старых противных для каких-то там незнамо кого.
В общем, результаты правительственной заботы и мудрого перераспределения ресурсов как обычно - налицо.
И что, это чему-то кого-то научило? Сомневаюсь.
