На Correspondents Dinner комик Киммел шутит:

Listing the variety of people attending the dinner -- members of the media, politicians, celebrities and others -- Kimmel concluded: “Everything that is wrong with America is here in this room.”

Эта шутка была бы очень смешной, если бы не была такой грустно-правдивой.

the system worked again

Возвратившись недавно из очередного путешествия, я решил вспомнить, за что мы нежно любим тех людей в форме, которые заботятся о нашей безопасности в аэропортах. Примерно вот таким образом:

The grandmother of a 4-year-old girl who became hysterical during a security screening at a Kansas airport said Wednesday that the child was forced to undergo a pat-down after hugging her, with security agents yelling and calling the crying girl an uncooperative suspect.

То есть вы понимаете - здоровые мужики и тётки орут на четырёхлетнюю девочку, облапывают её и обзывают "uncooperative suspect". Но самое главное не это - а то, что это считается для них правильным поведением:

"TSA has reviewed the incident and determined that our officers followed proper screening procedures in conducting a modified pat-down on the child," the agency said.

Каких всё-таки омерзительных уродов там держат, уму непостижимо. Ну и, конечно, себя они не обижают:

A 95-year-old Michigan man says he was subjected to humiliating searches by security guards at San Diego International Airport and that his $300 went missing during the process.

Тут тоже есть интересная деталь:

Petti said the agency told him that the video footage from the terminal was too blurry to determine what happened.

То есть если на видео нихрена понять невозможно - они для чего вообще его снимают? И как они в случае чего собираются им пользоваться для целей безопасности? 

Ну и напоследок, если у кого возникнут идеи, что типа они, конечно, сволочи, но враг-то через них не пройдёт: 

Two current and two former TSA employees have been arrested in an alleged drug and bribery scheme by screeners who allowed large shipments of narcotics to pass through security at Los Angeles International Airport in exchange for cash, federal prosecutors said.

Т.е. всё, что надо сделать террористам, чтобы доставить любую бомбу в любой самолёт - это прикинуться наркоторговцами и заплатить немного бабла парочке мудаков из TSA. Причём стоит это всего-то $1200 с мудака. 

Правда, вы почувствовали себя резко безопаснее? Поздравляю.

P.S. в продолжение к предыдущей записи - очевидно, not everything that is wrong with America was in that room. Но люди, которые позволяют этому продолжаться уже который год, имея все возможности это изменить - там, безусловно, были.
