employees who gave up their bonuses did not do so voluntarily, but
feared their names would be released if they did not.

Т.е. прокуратура угрожала сотрудникам AIG, что если они не вернут бонусы, то их имена опубликуют? Типа, чтобы справедливый гнев трудового народа их настиг? Интересно работает нынешняя администрация.
И цель этой работы уже вполне очевидна:

Иными словами, госчиновники желают контроля над всеми фирмами, имеющими отношение к финансам. Причем, в отличие от FDIC, этот контроль будет осуществляться политиками.

we don't know why is he still working as the head of commodity trading. Could it be that he's been asked to stay put, once again, by AIG boss?
The post seems to be in the "much ado about nothing" category. Empty gossip.

And - yes, I'd rather have the contractual obligations to be honored (including the bonuses), than the president and congress made it their business to eliminate them. It has painfully familiar taste to it.
