Когда противники очередных иницитаив мудрого руководства говорят, что раширение власти правительства опасно, одним из ходовых аргументов социалистов является такой: дескать, это конкретное расширение не так уж велико, в сущности, почти ничего нового не вводится, так, небольшие поправки для того, чтобы исправить мелкие недочёты системы. Те же, кто утверждает, что это начало больших изменений, и после того, как будет сделан один небольшой шаг, по той же логике последует второй, третий, и через некоторое время власть государства раширится настолько, что мы будет только удивляться, как мы такое допустили, и как изменения, на которые мы бы никогда не согласились, знай мы о них заранее, произошли как бы без нашего ведома - так вот, такие люди руководствуются не фактами - которые прямо говорят о том, что никаких больших изменений нет - а идеологией, и потому прислушиваться к ним не стоит, они просто пытаются подменить недостаток фактических аргументов демагогией.
Давайте посмотрим, что думает по этому поводу самый выдающийся оратор и интеллектуальный лидер левых, Президент Барак Обама:

Look: when Social Security was passed, it applied to widows and orphans, and it was a very restricted program, and over time, that structure that was built ended up developing into the most important social safety net that we have in our country. The same is true on every piece of progressive legislation, every bit of progress that we've made. When the Civil Rights Act passed, there were still a bunch of folks down South who couldn't vote. And you know, I'm sure there were a bunch of commentators out there who said, "You know what? This law's not doing the job. There's still folks who aren't able to exercise their franchise." But the point was that we had created a structure, we had put a framework in place, that allowed us then to continue to make progress. That's what we've done over the last 18 months. That's what I expect we're gonna keep on doin' as long as I've got the capacity to do it, as long as I'm President of the United States.
