A Massachusetts-based startup called E25Bio has developed this sort of rapid test. Founder and Chief Technology Officer Irene Bosch says her firm has field-tested it in hospitals.

Этот тест стоит в 5-10 раз дешевле используемого сейчас, и работает в течение 15-20 минут, и не требует никаких лабораторий и специальных знаний - просто плюнуть на бумажку. Почему же со сих пор он не используется на каждом углу? А потому, что FDA его запрещает - они требуют, чтобы быстрый тест был столь же точен, как тот, который занимает несколько дней, и реагировал даже на микроскопические концентрации вируса, и запрещают его выпускать в противном случае.

В нормальной ситуации, немного менее точный, но быстрый тест - учитывая разницу между 20 минутами и несколькими днями - гораздо лучше, и это легко видеть - если вы ждёте теста несколько дней, то в этот период вы могли заразиться, а тестироваться каждый день дорогим и медленным тестом вы не станете, и никто не станет. Да и если протестируетесь - тест годен только в том случае, если вы сидели в изоляции несколько дней до теста (чтобы набралось нужное количество вируса - даже самый точный тест имеет нижний предел) и всё время с момента теста до получения его результатов. Каковые тут же станут бесполезными, как только вы из карантина выйдите, т.е. окно полезности этого теста - сильно короче периода ожидания. Людей служивых можно заставлять каждый день тестироваться, невзирая на цену и неудобства, и надеяться, что за время от заражения до получения первого позитивного теста они не слишком многих заразят, но всем остальным от этого не так уж много пользы. 
Тогда как 15-минутный тест вы  можете хоть несколько раз в день делать - и если он покажет позитив, тут же отправиться домой (или остаться дома) отдыхать.
