Частная медицина в Канаде:

Цены, конечно, немаленькие - но совершенно разорительными не выглядят, если hospital costs etc. включены. А тем временем в госмедицине:

The advice came from David Dodge, the past governor of the Bank of Canada and former deputy finance minister who said medicare costs will inevitably rise in coming years at a greater rate than government revenues and the country’s gross domestic product, and require some unpalatable choices to be made.

Choices he suggested include new taxes specifically dedicated for health care or a steady reduction in the scope and quality of services provided by the public health system that would require people to either pay for private care themselves or suffer ever greater wait times for service in the public system.

“These are stark and unpalatable choices that we face with respect to health care, but there is no magic solution,” he said. “We absolutely must have an adult debate about how we deal with this. Finding solutions in this area is extraordinarily difficult, but it is imperative.”

Ай-яй-яй, так что же это получается, госмедицина - не решение всех проблем?

Не совсем понятно, как именно это показывает проблемы американской системы (которые, конечно, вполне есть).
Некоторые из этих процедур, насколько я понял, они как раз и проводят в Америке.
Но было бы интересно посмотреть - насколько больше. У вас есть такой же список для США?

Google первым выдает сайт costhelper.com. Не знаю на сколько можно ему верит, но вот приблизительные цены (из тех, что есть):

- Knee Replacement - 35,000
- MRI - 1,100-2,700
- Hip Replacement - 39,000

Т.е. цены в 2-3 раза выше (считая что курс 1:1). Почему это указывает на недостатки американской системы? Потому, что завышенная стоимость возникает из-за идиотечского симбиоза государственной системы с корпоративной. В нормальном свободном рынке, расценки на услуги контролируются выбором потребителя; в американских же условиях они контролируются Medicare'ом (т.е. НЕ контролируются). Поставщикам мед. услуг (которых, в отличии от страховых контор мало кто винит в нынешнем бардаке) это только на руку , а мы с вами платим втридорога.

Однако на том же сайте про MRI: Some diagnostic imaging centers offer discounted prices from about $380 to $560, depending on geographic location. These apply to patients who pay cash and do not use health insurance.

И про knee: At the Tulane University Hospital and Clinic, an uninsured patient would pay a discounted price between $29,335 and $34,050. And at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Aiea, Hawaii, where the full price is about $33,000, an uninsured patient would pay a discounted rate of $20,212 to $23,581.
Возможно, есть и дешевле, если хорошо поискать.
