[MSBNC Chief] Griffin told The New Republic in March he expected to beat Fox by the end of the calendar year.

"The war on Fox is over," said Media Matters Executive Vice President Angelo Carusone. "And it's not just that it's over, but it was very successful. To a large extent, we won."

Fox News Channel maintained its grip on the cable-news network ratings prize in 2013, drawing more viewers than the combined averages of CNN, MSNBC and HLN.

That article - surprisingly, as New Yorker is no fan of Fox by any means, - generally confirms your joke about finishing second from bottom.
