Франция:

Despite expectations that France would provide the bulk of a planned 15,000 strong UN force, Paris said Thursday it would send 200 troops to reinforce the UN mission in Lebanon.

Надо полагать, огромных человекоподобных роботов, потому что в другом случае непонятно, что именно они рассчитывают достичь, посылая 200 человек.

While it said France was prepared to command the enlarged force, it also called for safety guarantees for its soldiers before making further commitments.

Именно за этим они там и нужны - чтобы предоставлять им safety guarantees. Интересно, от кого они эти гарантии желают получить - от Хизбаллы?
Впрочем, вот что замечает французский МИД:

“What we must absolutely avoid is giving the image of a Western world imposing peace on the Muslim world,” she said.

Конечно, миротворцы, занимающиеся установлением мира - что за бредовая мысль?
Остальная Европа:

While around half a dozen countries have offered troops, European powers expected to have provided key contributions have proven reluctant to give firm troop pledges for a 3,500-strong vanguard force due to be in place in 10 days.

Около полудюжины - это, надо полагать, четыре или пять. Одну страну мы знаем - это Франция, посылающая целых 200 солдат. Кто же остальные?

Israel says it would be “difficult if not inconceivable” to accept nations which do not recognise its right to exist as part of a UN force in Lebanon.

Israeli UN envoy Dan Gillerman was speaking after Indonesia and Malaysia, which do not recognise Israel, pledged troops for the UN deployment.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar, whose country chairs the 56-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference, said Israel should have no role in deciding which countries make up the force.

Уж они-то разоружат Хизоболлу. Или вооружат?

Gillerman noted that Albar was recently quoted as saying that Hezbollah should be rearmed.

Ну, как вам миротворцы? Большая победа, правда? Но не волнуйтесь, если что-то пойдет не так, у нас есть план. Вернее, у американцев есть план. Вот он:

If Hezbollah resists international demands to disarm, Rice said, "one would have to assume that there will be others who are willing to call Hezbollah what we are willing to call it, which is a terrorist organization."

When you assume... Да, конечно, это сильно испугает Хизбаллу - "Если вы тотчас не разоружитесь, то мы... то мы... то мы будем предполагать, что кто-то назовет вас террористами, вот! Что, сьели?!"

Типа не в курсе дядя, что есть такая штука, как ракеты, что ими можно стрелять на расстоянии, и что у Хизбаллы они имеются. Ну спросил бы у Яалона, что-ли... Или хотя-бы почитал газету Хаарец.

В связи с этим, кстати, совершенно непонятно, зачем Халуц борется с утечками информации в прессу. Если это единственный способ довести до сведения министра обороны, что же происходит - то надо его использовать.

арабская солидарность

Некоторые арбаские семьи в дни войны решили уехать на йухюг, к своим братьям в Бет-Лехем, Рамаллу и т.п. города-побратимы. Это оказалось серьезной ошибкой:

They told us, 'you are worse than the Jews.' We heard expressions of joy over the fact we have fled our homes, and some even tried to attack us. We were disgusted and decided to return to Haifa" he said, stressing that he used to be a regular donor to the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza.

Может, учредить для израильских арабов программу бесплатных туров по Рамалле, Дженину и Бет-Лехему? Глядишь, узнают, что они хуже евреев, и поддержка ПА среди них поусохнет:

We thought we are one nation and that what really hurts them, hurts us too. We went to demonstrations for them and we donated a lot of money to them because we thought they are our brothers and that is our obligation. But, what we found was exploitation and undeserving treatment toward someone supposedly from the same nation," he told.

We will never again make a donation or participate in a demonstration for the West Bank from now on.

Жалко беженцев - и под бомбами посидели, и иллюзий лишились. Зато полезно может быть. Впрочем, вряд-ли будет.
